Disposition:
Serious and composed: As the group’s tactician, he tends to think before he acts most of the time.. As a noble who has grown up with heavy responsibilities upon his young shoulders, Ignis’ general demeanor also reflects a controlled elegance and a sharp intelligence. Most of the time, he prefers to deal in logic rather than emotions, which serves him well as it often allows him to pinpoint the weaknesses of his adversaries and to deal with matters efficiently. While he is the most serious one out of all four of them, Ignis also has a dry, sarcastic sense of humour and absolutely delivers with his classic one-liners -- he also tends to have a thing for puns.
As a gentleman born and bred, he's inherently sophisticated; he’s also incredibly polite and courteous even when he’s upset, and is incredibly patient, kind and loyal to the people he cares about.
Responsible, reliable, loyal: he bears the burden of being Noctis’ second in command and advisor without complaint, and constantly puts Noctis before himself, no matter the situation. As a gifted child, he is conscientious and precise, and often seeks to improve himself by attending policy meetings, becoming wiser and more mature beyond his years in order to be able to better serve Noctis. He might be perceptive, but he does sometimes tend to struggle when it comes to reading people’s intentions as he’s not so schooled in it -- and he does tend to lose his cool a little when things don’t go his way, since he’s very much a perfectionist. His intense loyalty and devotion to Noctis knows no boundaries: he has once declared to Ardyn that he doesn’t care about the world, he only cares about making sure Noctis is safe and unharmed. When he found out about Noctis’ ultimate fate, Ignis had set out to try to change it to save him, lending credence to the fact that yes, Ignis is very much willing to trade his own life and even the future of the world for Noctis’ continued well-being.
Nurturing and protective: Ignis often tries to keep Noctis and his friends out of trouble, to varying degrees of success (hence he’s unofficially known as a ‘mom’ of the group), and this is most obvious in how he relates to Noctis and is known as his caretaker -- from cleaning up his apartment, chauffeuring, cooking for him (although not without gentle complaint), tolerating Noctis’ epic dislike for vegetables, etc.
Reckless, rash, impulsive: However, there is more than meets the eye with him. While he might be outwardly calm and composed -- he often loses his cool when Noctis gets hurt, and displays his recklessly rash, impulsive side when Noctis is in danger (putting on the ring, constantly rushing to be by his side when he gets hurt), revealing more of the young man that he really is instead of the adult he has to be where his prince is concerned. Underneath the cool and composed exterior is a very passionate man who keeps firmly to his promise to protect Noctis.
Ruthless and vindictive: He was described as an "unflappable and a stone-cold assassin when it comes to the action", and in one instance, displayed knowledge of, and a casual willingness to torture enemies for information, although he tones it down when he’s around Noctis, since the latter is infinitely more soft-hearted. He also has a vindictive, vengeful streak, as he has expressed an interest in making Nifleheim pay for what they’ve done to Lucis.
Seeks to please: This trait is seen when he reveals the reason behind him excelling at baking and cooking even if he personally doesn’t care for it: he originally baked in order to replicate the Tenebraen pastry that Noctis had liked so much as a child. From then on, he became the group’s chef because he enjoyed watching the smile on Noctis’ (and also others) face when he did.
Under pressure: Ignis came into the world right before he put on the Ring of the Lucii, which means he was stopped from protecting Ignis -- this means that Ignis already isn’t in his usual frame of mind in the beginning few days. All he wants to do is to get to Noctis and to make sure he’s safe.
However, he learned soon enough that no matter what he does, his best bet was to do as the gods ask so that he can return to his world and protect Noctis. Eventually, he was forced by circumstances to slow down, and that there was no point in blindly panicking. Which, of course, leads to the next point after he’s calmed down and can see reason again: to form an action plan. Find out what he can about this world and do whatever it takes to go home.
Under that action plan, Ignis will perform better under pressure. While being in a whole new world is a shock to him, Ignis is capable of adapting to the new rules, learning and observing before making any rash moves. The pursuit of information is of paramount importance to him, because Ignis wants to know what kind of world he’s dealing with. This is not altogether different from what he was like in his world when dealing with adversaries. This also leads to an evolution of that plan once the vision he received from Pryna sinks in and Ignis realises that Noctis is bound for death back in their world: to find a way to save Noctis from that fate no matter what. Ignis’ devotion to Noctis’ well-being is absolute and intense. Soon, he will begin to see Noctium as a place where he can buy time for Noctis if he ends up here, to keep him safe and alive. And this also means he has to provide for Noctis using whatever means he has at his disposal, as he has always done as his caretaker for just about all of his life.
This translates to Ignis not having very much issues with using emotional intimacy to create currency, even if he privately finds the idea of generating income via intimacy quite discomfiting. Ignis is not used to emotional intimacy, but he’s sufficiently motivated to overcome it if it means Noctis doesn’t need to/has an easier, better life here.
Tactically, Ignis is also aware that it doesn’t help to create as many advantages as he can just in case something dangerous happens that will threaten Noctis’ well-being, so he will be actively networking, making friends, creating bonds that he can use/tap on where necessary.
Condition upon arrival: He came in wet and in an emotional and determinedly angry mess and willing to fight Ardyn tooth and nail, but generally in good health and isn’t hurt anywhere. So initially the NPCs will have a stubborn Ignis intent on doing everything it takes to get home, but he calms down after that when he realises that isn’t working, and he’ll utilise other means to get information.
Abilities: Ignis has incredible skill at swords, knives, spears and daggers, as well as hand-to-hand combat. He can also identify an adversary’s weakness quickly. Additionally, he’s a skilled magic user, able to use healing potions and equip elemental magic to others’ weapons -- of course, all magic is conditional on Noctis’ own magic as he draws on him.
His abilities and techniques as listed here: https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Ignis_Scientia/Gameplay
He can use all abilities from the Teamwork grid and the Techniques grid (he cannot use Libra Elementia). For Techniques, he can use Mark, Enhancement, Regroup, Overwhelm, Sagefire + his limit breaks, and linked attacks where relevant/necessary.
He can also use Total Clarity and bind his weapons to elements: i.e. Flamebound, Frostbound, Stormbound daggers. He can also use Tactical Art techniques like High Jump, Overclock and Quick Recipeh (lol I had to, I'm sorry).
He’s also a gifted tactician and chef.
